American Hartford Gold Review – August 2025

If you have started to plan for your retirement, it’s important to remember that every decision is important. One of the ways to prepare is to open an IRA account. A typical IRA is backed by stocks, bonds, and mutual funds, but when the economy fails, so does your IRA. Another option is to open a gold IRA. In this case, these IRAs are backed by precious metals, including gold and silver. There are many companies that offer gold IRAs, and one of them is American Hartford Gold.

I have been working in the gold IRA and precious metals industry for many years, and over that time, I’ve worked closely with AHG. I have seen the process of opening a gold IRA with American Hartford Gold, and I have also purchased gold and silver coins for investments. What do I think about this company? How does it compare to other precious metal dealers? Keep reading to find out what I think about this IRA provider and if it is the right company for you.

American Hartford Gold – A Brief Overview

American Hartford Gold Group is based in LA and has been part of the precious metals industry for more than a decade. The company specializes in helping those investing in gold and silver, either through the direct purchase of precious metals or via gold and silver IRAs.

The company has celebrity endorsements, including from Bill O’Reilly and Trish Regan, but it also has a track record of high praise from everyday people who have invested their retirement savings into a precious metal IRA.

The Services American Hartford Gold Offers

I highly recommend American Hartford Gold, and there are a number of reasons why I do. One of the reasons is that the company has a number of wonderful services, products, and other benefits that help it stand out from the rest of the companies in this crowded industry.

Top Custodian and Storage Options

Due to IRS regulations, the precious metals that are held in a self-directed IRA must be managed by a custodian and be stored in a depository. AHG’s chosen custodian is Equity Trust Company, which is a well-respected custodian in the industry. They will work with other companies, too, if you prefer.

As far as storage goes, AHG primarily works with Delaware Depository, Brinks, and International Depository Services. All of these are fully insured and secure, so you won’t need to worry about your metals.

IRA Rollovers and Transfers

Another stand-out feature of American Hartford Gold is how simple they make it to rollover or transfer from your 401(k) or existing IRA to a gold or silver IRA. The team will walk you through the entire process. When I did it, they really took the time to explain everything, and I didn’t have to do a thing.

Physical Gold and Silver from Around the World

Another thing that really sticks out about American Hartford Gold’s offerings is that they source precious metals and gold from around the globe. This means that if you are looking to diversify your retirement account with precious metals from outside the US, you can find metals from Canada, China, Australia, and Switzerland to add, too.

These metals are eligible for individual retirement accounts, or you can purchase them for individual investments. This is a great way to diversify your portfolio with coins and bars that other gold IRA providers don’t offer.

Buyback Program – Liquidate Your Metals, Fast

One thing that really makes a gold IRA company stand out is a solid buyback program, and American Hartford Gold stands out as one that does.

AHG will buy back any metals you have when you need to liquidate, no matter what the reason. There is a catch, though; they will only buy back metals you bought from them. This is pretty standard.

Customer Service

When you need the help of American Hartford Gold, they are there for you. The customer service team is wonderful, and when I contacted them about a promotion I saw on their website, I was very impressed with how they answered my questions. I also asked bout the gold and silver assets they had available, and then I filled out the form on the American Hartford Gold website for a free gold IRA guide, and they called me.

Every time I got clear answers to my questions, and I never felt like they were trying to push me to buy. This level of professionalism is rare in this industry.

American Hartford Gold IRA Service Fee

Before people sign up for a gold IRA or even work with a company to buy precious metals, they want to know one thing — how much is it going to cost? What are the fees associated with the purchase? Is there a storage fee? Liquidation fees? Additional fees that are surprises?

This is a very fair question, and I will admit that all of these companies have fees associated with them…even a reputable company like AHG.

Account Setup Fee?

There is a one-time, $50 fee to set up an account with AHG. This is nice, especially because other firms charge a setup fee of up to $100. These are typical gold IRA fees.

Annual Storage Fee? Maintenance?

Depending on the custodian and storage option you choose, you can expect to pay from around $175 – $250 a year, as all of these companies have different fee structures.

Account Minimum?

There is an account minimum of $10,000 for both precious metals and gold IRA accounts. This is a very common minimum.  However, if you want a lower investment to start, the lowest minimums you’ll find are with the reputable Goldco IRA.

Keep in mind that AHG may waive fees for those who invest over a certain amount into an IRA. With fees waived, you may not pay anything for a couple of years.

Metal Pricing?

American Hartford Gold doesn’t list prices for gold or other precious metals on the website. You must call to get pricing. All of the pricing is based on spot prices, but there is a markup of 3% to 12% depending on the product. This means that if you want a gold coin that has a spot price of $1,000, for instance, it’s likely that you will actually pay anywhere from $1,030 to $1,120 for that coin. American Hartford Gold only sells gold and silver. Other metals, like platinum, are not available.
